Flying Brick is proud to have been the naming rights sponsor since the very first one! It’s a great community event – fun for all ages and levels of fitness :)
The 2022 Flying Brick Bellarine Sunset Run is back in its regular slot in the local events calendars on February 12th, 2022. Earlier this year event organisers were left heartbroken as the state of Victoria was forced into a snap 5 day lockdown at 2pm on the Friday of the event, they were able to reschedule for 7 weeks later to stay loyal to their participants all be it at 25% of the usual 1200 from years gone by.
Event Manager Dion says “it was the hardest thing we have had to endure in our 6 years, but the facts are, the pandemic has seen many families have the biggest challenges of their lifetime. He continues on to acknowledge loyal sponsors “our sponsors were some of the hardest hit with the Valentine’s Day weekend cancelled, yet they still remained positive that we needed to reschedule and show the community our passion and resilience to host the event.”
As events reopen across Geelong and the Bellarine so does the energy of the community who is reliant on visitors and tourism. “To play a role in getting people back to the Bellarine Peninsula and restoring the community spirit is important to our family” Dion says
The 2022 distances include the Active Feet Half Marathon, Port Phillip Ferries 10km and the reintroduction of the Community Bank Portarlington Bully Buster 4km which hopefully will see numbers return to 75% or just over 900. All distances have walk or run options and the great news is medals are also back in 2022!
Organisers are expecting an increase in new walkers and runners to the event as many people took to exercising in their 5-10km radius through the lockdowns. Dion believes the course is amongst the most accessible, flat, scenic and by far the friendliest course in Victoria with holiday makers cheering participants through the holiday parks.
